AMPHITRITE PAREO
Cut from cotton muslin light enough to move on its own, and left semi-sheer so it takes colour from whatever is beneath it. The edge is finished with a scalloped wave — the Resort '27 line, worked here as a border rather than an inset. Tied at the hips it is a pareo; folded at the head, a scarf; knotted across the chest, a top.

Frequently asked
- What is the difference between a pareo and a sarong?
- None, in practice — they are the same garment under different names. Pareo comes from Tahitian and is the usual word in French, Italian, Spanish and Polish; sarong comes from Malay and is the common term in English. Both describe a rectangle of cloth tied at the body.
- How do you tie a pareo?
- At the hips, knot two adjacent corners at one side for a skirt, or wrap and tuck at the centre front. Across the chest, knot two corners behind the neck. Folded into a triangle it also ties as a headscarf.
- Is it see-through?
- It is semi-sheer by design — cotton muslin of this weight is translucent. It is intended to be worn over swimwear.
- Is it made to order?
- Made to order in Europe. Each piece is cut after you order it, so nothing is held in stock and nothing is discarded. Allow 8-10 working days.
